Mrs. Sajeetha Thavareesan

I, Sajeetha Thavareesan, am working as a Lecturer at the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, Eastern University, Sri Lanka since March 2014. I completed my honors degree at Eastern University, Sri Lanka. I developed an Android based Patient’s Health care Management System as my final year research project and obtained an award for this research: "Kanapathipillai Karunairajah memorial award for the Best Research conducted by the Final Year students of 2006/ 2007."

I obtained M.Phil in Computer Science at the University of Jaffna. My M.Phil thesis is titled "Sentiment Analysis on Tamil Articles using Machine Learning Approaches". In this research, my aim was to propose a model to perform sentiment analysis on Tamil Articles and create corpora for Tamil.

I believe that my knowledge, skills, and experience mean that I am well-positioned to meet the current challenges of learning, teaching, assessment, and research in the current higher education landscape. I have the expertise to teach a broad range of undergraduate modules in Computing. I have created lab material and learning resources for undergraduate courses for more than 9 years. I have participated in programme review and curriculum development activities during my time at Eastern University, Sri Lanka.

I have published multiple International conference papers and journals. I have an h-index of 13 and citations of 636 from Google Scholar. I have more than 5 years of experience in working with Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing(NLP). I am a reviewer and programme committee member for multiple international workshops and CodaLab competitions. I am a guest editor of "Speech and Language Technologies for Dravidian Languages" published by ELSEVIER Ltd. I am planning to continue my research in Natural Language Processing which I gained expertise in during my time at the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka. My work will extend to offensive language detection and sentiment analysis.
